What a success! We teamed up with Leech Tishman to host a client lunch and learn session. We've hosted multiple in-person lunch and learn events, but this was our first ever virtual one. While we enjoy the networking and in person interaction, given the current circumstances we were thrilled to be able to still provide such relevant information to a large group of attendees from various locations.
Leech Tishman is one of our Pittsburgh PA clients on ProLaw who has seen absolute great success and ROI from implementing a SaaS business intelligence (BI) solution at their law firm! During this virtual session Everett Burns, Leech Tishman CFO, presented information to attendees on Managing a Law Firm in the Age of Covid/Remote Work. He discussed how his firm is navigating the current times and how business intelligence has aided him in day to day activities through:
- Real time data to efficiently/effectively manage precious resources
- Real time data to drive cash flow
- Real time data for analytics
This excerpt from their case study gives some background to why BI was even on Everett Burns, their CFO's, agenda:
One of Leech Tishman's most challenging issues was that they did not have ready access to key data like AR, WIP, billing, and client data. Their time and billing system (ProLaw) was unable to generate easy to use reports and could not calculate key metrics. They recognized that a business intelligence solution was necessary to move their firm forward and began to explore their legal BI options, hence partnering with BigSquare.
Not only was the firm unable to retrieve the data they were interested in, but they also could not generate the metrics they wanted to view. To sum it all up- Leech Tishman's current "BI tool" was not effective and the firm was lacking efficiency because of it.
With a new solution the most important goals were providing a BI product to the firm that:
- Could publish key metrics that measure the firm's performance
- Would help them report on crucial data they were unable to retrieve in ProLaw
- Would provide firm members ready access to key data

The lunch and learn session was hosted on Thursday September 17 virtually! We had 30+ attendees from firms across the US and abroad, the majority of them being firm management. While we certainty miss the in-person events, hosting virtually allowed for additional attendees that may not have been able to make the trip to Pittsburgh. The session kicked off with BigSquare's CEO, Joshua Bignell and attendees spent the remainder of the lunch hour hearing from Everett Burn's experience with business intelligence at Leech Tishman, specifically BigSquare's applications. Three items that were absolute "must-haves" with a BI tool for them were that the data has to be visual, the data has to be relatable to attorneys, and the data needs to be actionable. While no one really predicted what the past 6+ months have been, we have all learned to adapt. Everett shared during the lunch and learn "this type of BI dash-board has been absolutely essential for our business during these times." He is definitely not our only client that has shared similar thoughts.
The entire BigSquare team would like to thank Everett for being our featured speaker at this event and sharing such knowledgeable and relevant information. And a thank you to all that attended, we understand you are very busy and appreciate you took time out of your lunch hour to spend with us. The BigSquare team enjoyed the time spent connected with other legal professionals!
With the success and positive feedback from this event we are anxious to host our next virtual lunch and learn! What topic would you like to hear about next?!
